Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT , Consumer Discretionary and Financials sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.44% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ), which rose 4.74% or 0.36 points to trade at 7.96 at the close. Meanwhile, NexGen Energy Ltd. (TSX: NXE ) added 4.14% or 0.41 points to end at 10.32 and Torex Gold Resources Inc (TSX: TXG ) was up 3.98% or 1.12 points to 29.28 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Aya Gold & Silver Inc (TSX: AYA ), which fell 6.13% or 0.74 points to trade at 11.34 at the close. Bombardier Inc (TSX: BBDb ) declined 5.33% or 5.04 points to end at 89.53 and Cargojet Inc (TSX: CJT ) was down 4.43% or 5.62 points to 121.38.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 511 to 425 and 97 ended unchanged.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 1.29% to 14.55.

Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 7.06 to $2,755.76 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.85% or 1.43 to hit $75.96 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.85% or 0.68 to trade at $79.47 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.22% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.30% at 107.78.
