Investing.com – India stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Banking , Public Sector Undertakings and Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.59%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.59%.
The best performers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS: KTKM ), which rose 9.06% or 159.40 points to trade at 1,918.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Wipro Ltd (NS: WIPR ) added 6.58% or 18.55 points to end at 300.50 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS: BJFN ) was up 3.47% or 248.90 points to 7,431.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS: SBIL ), which fell 2.82% or 43.50 points to trade at 1,497.00 at the close. Trent Ltd (NS: TREN ) declined 2.20% or 136.60 points to end at 6,079.95 and Shriram Finance Ltd. (NS: SHMF ) was down 1.92% or 10.10 points to 516.40.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO: KTKM ) which rose 9.12% to 1,919.00, Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO: BJFN ) which was up 3.48% to settle at 7,430.15 and Bajaj Finserv Ltd (BO: BJFS ) which gained 3.27% to close at 1,736.05.
The worst performers were Zomato Ltd (NS: ZOMT ) which was down 7.32% to 230.60 in late trade, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS: APSE ) which lost 1.29% to settle at 1,148.45 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO: TCS ) which was down 1.16% to 4,078.00 at the close.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the India National Stock Exchange by 1489 to 890 and 27 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 2371 rose and 1525 declined, while 160 ended unchanged.
The India VIX , which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.22% to 16.41 a new 1-month high.
Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.09% or 2.50 to $2,746.20 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.43% or 0.33 to hit $77.06 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.43% or 0.35 to trade at $80.44 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.02% to 86.56, while EUR/INR rose 0.12% to 89.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 108.90.
