Japanese stocks led the gains in Asian markets Friday after Wall Street rallied to one of its best days of the year as data showed the U.S. economy is holding up better than expected, with particular credit going to the country’s shoppers. Relieved foreigners scoop up Japanese stocks as markets rebound

Foreign investors heavily bought into Japanese stocks in the week to Aug. 10, encouraged by policymakers' signals to stabilize the market following recent turmoil which had sent shares into their biggest one-day plunge since 1987.
